Group for monitoring and diagnosing of cardiovascular surgical diseases in elderly patients
Our center has accumulated a great experience of successful surgical treatment of cardiovascular system diseases in age-related patients. Age-related patients is a special group of patients, associated with increased surgical risk. In 2011 to improve the quality of diagnostics and the preparation for the operation of elderly patients, the Group for monitoring and diagnosing cardiovascular surgical diseases in elderly patients has been established in our Centre.
The main subjects of the Group are:
- diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases in the age -related patients;
- dynamic monitoring of the patient’s condition and determination of indications for surgical treatment;
- heart surgery risk assessment in the elderly, individual heart surgery risk evaluation;
- development of the algorithm for pre-operative preparation;
- individual pre-op examination scheme;
- monitoring of patient’s health after surgical treatment;
- studying the quality of life of patients after heart surgery.
The co-workers of the Group take an active part in the scientific work of the Center, analyze the results of surgical treatment and the quality of life of our patients after heart surgery. The data of numerous scientific researches are published in the press, including the book "Surgical treatment of heart diseases in elderly patients: modern approaches to treatment, quality of life and prognosis" L.A. Bokeria, S.F. Nikonov, I.E. Olofinskaya , Moscow, 2012.
Researches of the quality of life of age-related groups are held after surgical treatment, including combined blood vessel and heart valve pathologies. The results of the research are published in the press: "The study of hemodynamic parameters and indicators of the functional state of patients older than 65 years in the long-term period after aortic valve replacement in combination with a one-stage or stage-by-stage endarterectomy of the internal carotid artery" L.A. Bokeria, I.I. Skopin, N.A. Darvish, I.E. Olofinskaya, T.N. Serguladze, M.M. Nersisyan, Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery., 2014, 6:33-39; "Quality of life of elderly patients after combined operations of aortic valve replacement and carotid endarterectomy" I.Е. Olofinskaya, I.I. Skopin, N.A. Darvish, I.Yu. Farulova, M.M. Nersisyan, Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery., 2014, 4: 31-34.
Researches of the results of operative treatment in elderly patients with aortic defect in combination with CAD, after combined operations of valve replacement and myocardial revascularization (GAB) including in combination with minimally invasive myocardial revascularization, are ongoing. The results of the unique experience of our Center in this direction are also published in the press:. "Surgical treatment of combined lesion of the aortic valve and coronary arteries in a patient of 78 years with high surgical risk: treatment results, quality of life" Bokeria, I.I. Skopin, V.Yu. Merzlyakov, I.E. Olofinskaya, Yu.V. Goncharuk, Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 2013, №1, С.9-13.
Due to the increase of the lifespan of the population in Russian Federation, the number of patients over 80 years old who need surgical treatment of the heart and blood vessels pathology also increases. Researches of the results of operative treatment of valvular and vascular pathology, the analysis of the quality of life after the performed treatment demonstrate a significant improvement of the state of health of our patients. The data of our researches are published in the press: "Studying the results of surgical treatment of valvular heart pathology in combination with IHD in conditions of artificial circulation in patients over 80 years" Bokeria LA, Skopin II, Muratov MR, Olofinskaya I. E., Nersisyan M.M. Thoracic and cardiovascular surgery, Vol. 58, No. 1, pp. 41-47, 2016, et al.
Our priority task is to increase the effectiveness of cardiosurgical care for elderly patients with cardiovascular system diseases in Russia.
