Department of clinical transfusiology

The main directions of work of the Department of clinical transfusiology are:

• carrying out transfusions of donor blood and its components,

• implementation of alternative methods of blood system management,

• spreading of autologous blood reservation methods,

• increase of transfusions safety,

• audit of the use of donated blood and its components.

Special attention is paid to the prognosis of donor blood transfusions and its components and the development of measures to prevent the occurrence of indications for their use.

5,210 transfusions were performed in 3,973 patients in 2022. The ratio of donor plasma transfusion volumes to erythrocyte-containing components of donor blood is 1:1.2. The transfusion index is 2.2 transfusions per a patient to whom the components of donor blood were transfused.
