Department of blood transfusion

Department of blood transfusion at A.N. Bakulev Center was founded in 1970. The use of autohemotransfusion method in cardiovascular surgery was developed here, for the first time in the USSR.

Currently, the main directions of the department work are:

• planning, recruiting, management and medical examination of donors, donorship promotion;

• procurement (including off-premise), processing and storage of donated blood and its components;

• ensuring the safety of donated blood and its components.

A.N. Bakulev Center Department of blood transfusion is ahead of many blood services in performing double donor erythrocytapheresis and multicomponent donations.

11837 donations were carried out in 2022, 8872 litres of donor blood processed, 2182 litres of which were procured off-premise. 3267 litres of erythrocyte suspension, 2206 litres of donor plasma, 1909 doses of platelet concentrate, 1290 doses of cryoprecipitate were given for clinical use.
