Department of resuscitation and intensive care for premature newborns and infants with CHD

The Department of resuscitation and intensive care for premature newborns and infants with CHD is one of the key departments at A.N. Bakulev Center. The main task of the department is to provide intensive care to children with congenital heart defects in the perioperative period.

Many newborns with critical heart defects, including preterm and extremely low birth weight newborns, are admitted to the department directly from maternity hospitals. Here their condition is stabilized and they are prepared for surgical treatment.

The department staff uses specialized methods of therapy in their work (ECMO machine, Cell Saver, peritoneal dialysis). There is all the necessary equipment that meets the requirements of world standards for nursing premature babies and children with critical weight.

The department treats 1100-1200 children annually.

17 doctors, including 2 MDs, 46 nurses and 14 nurse assistants work in the department. According to modern requirements, all medical personnel have specialization in several specialities: "anesthesiology-intensive care " and "neonatology".
