PERINATAL CARDIOLOGICAL CENTER

The Perinatal Cardiological Center was founded in August 2002.
It is the only specialized Center in Russia where pregnant women with cardiac pathology and their future children get medical screening, care, outpatient and inpatient treatment.
The PCC is the only center in Russia where early echocardiographic diagnosis of CHD and fetal rhythm disorders is carried out starting from the 13th week of pregnancy.
The PCC is the only center in Russia that carries out diagnosis and targeted treatment of the fetus with organic heart rhythm disorders.
The PCC is the unique center where intrauterine diagnostics of the cardiovascular system pathology is taught.
The PCC is the only center in Russia which conducts teleconsultations, case conferences, TV-seminars and lectures on intrauterine diagnosis of CHD for different Russian regions.
Almost 25,000 children with congenital heart diseases (CHDs) are born in Russia annually. More than half of them need urgent surgery to save their life. More than 75% of infants who did not have a surgical operation in time die before they reach one year. The main reason for the tragic outcome is the late detection of the defect, which leaves no time for doctors and no chance for the child and his parents.

The Perinatal Cardiological Center of A.N. Bakulev NMRC for Cardiovascular Surgery of the Russian Ministry of Health conducts complex work on intrauterine diagnosis of cardiac pathology.
Highly experienced staff of various areas of expertise such as cardiologists, obstetricians-gynecologists, ultrasound and functional diagnostics doctors work in the Center. Their joint efforts are aimed at helping women with heart diseases to bear and give birth to a healthy child, and save lives of newborns with congenital heart diseases.

• the earliest possible exclusion of heart disease in the fetus;
• the exact diagnosis and development of further tactics of conducting prenatal care;
• addressing the issue of early termination of pregnancy in case of detection of multiple pathologies in the fetus;
• choice of term and method of delivery depending on the specific pathology;
• choice of method of a newborn cardiosurgical treatment;
• identifying the causes of cardiac pathology in the fetus, treating a woman and planning a subsequent pregnancy.

The Perinatal Cardiological Center is equipped with expert class diagnostic equipment. Ultrasound examination of the fetus is performed on devices that have a set of special built-in programs that provide the most effective and safe intrauterine diagnosis. The power of ultrasonic radiation used in these programs does not have a negative impact on the development of the fetus and the health of the expectant mother.
A wide range of tests aimed at identifying infectious agents in the body of a pregnant woman is carried out in modern laboratories equipped with special highly sensitive analyzers.
Now PCC doctors are expanding their interests not only in the field of cardiac pathology, but also in the field of diagnosing concomitant CNS pathology.

In 2022, 4818 patients underwent examinations and received consultations at the Perinatal Cardiological Center.
