DIVISION OF ARTERIAL PATHOLOGY SURGERY
The Division of arterial pathology includes two departments- Department of surgery of great and peripheral arteries (headed by V.G. Papitashvili, MD) and Department of surgery of aortic arch branches (headed by N.A. Darvish).
Main directions of scientific and practical activities of the division
- open and hybrid surgery of the thoracoabdominal aorta (thoracic and abdominal aorta endoprosthetics, hybrid interventions for aortic dissection, operations under cardiopulmonary bypass);
- surgical treatment of congenital anomalies of the arch and descending aorta;
- open and endovascular interventions in patients with atherosclerotic lesions of the aortic arch branches;
- open and hybrid surgical interventions for atherosclerotic lesions of the arteries of the lower extremities, including lesions leading to the development of critical ischemia;
- issues of vital organs protection during surgical interventions;
- the study of operative risk factors in repeated operations on the aorta and its branches with the development of measures for their prevention;
- the use of angiogenesis stimulators (autologous progenitors of CD 133+ endothelial blasts and “Angiostimulin”, a gene medication of vascular endothelial growth factor VEGF 165) in vascular surgery;
- new approaches to the treatment of multifocal atherosclerosis associated with the widespread introduction of hybrid surgery and the use of traditional and endovascular methods of treatment.
