A step-by-step system for pre-operative patients’ preparation aimed at thorough breathing training:

• full deep breathing training;
• training of local breathing in order to increase the ventilation capacity of individual lung sections;
• sound gymnastics, contributing to the training of extended exhalation by means of pronunciation of various hissing sounds;
• coughing training in the form of one-time coughing movements at the inhalation peak and repeated coughing movements during exhalation;
• teaching muscle relaxation.

The staff of the department has developed therapeutic exercises for patients with congenital heart defects who are on controlled breathing.
