Division of scientific development and pilot production of medical devices for cardiovascular surgery
A.N. Bakulev Center is a recognized leader in the field of bioprosthetics in heart surgery in Russia and the CIS countries. The first operations to replace the aortic and mitral heart valves with prostheses made from biological tissue were performed at the Center in the late 60s of the XXth century. Since then, scientific work has been continuously carried out to find and improve design solutions for various types of biological prostheses, create new methods for preparing, preserving and sterilizing biological tissue, allowing us to increase the duration of trouble-free operation of prostheses in patients’ systemic blood flow. The Center’s team was awarded the title of laureate of the USSR State Prize for the development of methods for biological heart valves replacement.
Biological valves of A.N. Bakulev Center were exhibited at international exhibitions in Brussels, Vienna, Delhi, Munich, Bratislava, demonstrated at VDNKh in Moscow, and were awarded gold and silver medals.
Bioprostheses and medical devices developed and produced at A.N. Bakulev Center are used not only in our Center, but also in many other Russian cardiac surgery clinics. Employees of the clinical, research and production departments of the Center defended dozens of theses devoted to bioprosthetics, received more than 30 patents for inventions, and published more than 200 scientific papers.
