DEPARTMENT OF SURGERY OF AORTIC ARCH BRANCHES
The department was founded in 1987. The department diagnoses brachiocephalic arteries pathologies, as well as performs all types of interventions on the branches of the aortic arch. Operations are performed on the carotid arteries in severe patients with a history of stroke. In the list of types of operations conducted in the department, a special place is occupied by carotid arteries plasty after carotid endarterectomy, developed in the department. Namely, the use of a xenopericardial patch.
Types of operations developed and implemented in the department
To date, the department actively performs operations of any degree of complexity:
- Carotid endarterectomies of the carotid arteries by the eversion method, as well as by the classical method using various types of plasty
- Plastic surgery of the carotid arteries in order to eliminate various pathological neoplasms
- Endovascular interventions on coronary and peripheral arteries using drug-eluting stents
- Combined coronary artery bypass grafting with reconstructive heart valve surgery
Statistics
Over the past 13 years, more than 10,000 patients have been treated in the department (in 2022, just over 1,000). Approximately 600 operations are performed annually, more than 400 of them are open surgeries and about 150 endovascular interventions. The rate of post-operative complications corresponds to the world parameters of the world's leading clinics specializing in such operations.
